This should re-inforce the bass from the sub. Also, may seem a stupid question but did you know you can up the sub level on the amp menu? Is it music or movies that are lacking bass. Because as good as the '550' is for watching films, there is no way i would ever consider ditching my stereo for music reproduction. I have had the dav s550 for a few months now and have been using the yellow composite wire included with the system.

The connector unit is soldered to the circuit board and also bolted to the back of the unit. The repeated expansion/contraction of the case in that area, which gets very hot, simply wiggles the connections until they start to come away. Remarkably consistent, in that it takes almost exactly a year to break one of the joints. I went out and bought a Sony TV, surround sound system and a VCR.
The volume needs to be cranked on some DVDs but others are fine, especially those with a DTS track . Take the cover off and extract the circuit board that the speakers connect into, trace where the speaker connections are soldered into the board. I now have a unit with sound through all its speakers, but no way to play DVDs or CDs. I am utterly disappointed with Sony's design effort, to say the least. I'll buy something else and it won't be a Sony. I have the Sony DAV-s500 and it was great!

I don't know if I was just lucky or not but it has been working fine since. I'm not sure if it will help or not but I left the screws at the back a little loose to allow for the metal to expand when it heats up so this doesn't happen again. When I contacted Sony Canada they said that they did not have any information about others experiencing this problem. Seems like there is some dodgy connection. I expected more from Sony products as they were regarded as the most reliable brand. However, I now find myself questioning why Sony products remain more expensive than equivalent spec products when their reliability is so poor.

Knowing which model headphones you’re using lets us remove any sonic coloring from your experience. The product is as expected, no problem with the hardwares as such. But lack of availability of remote control and speaker wire dampen the real joy of using the product and hence curosity. The sound quality is comparable to many new high end systems of similar price range, and certainly doesn't sound cheap and nasty. The sub woofer gives really good quality bass that blends in well with the 5 tweeters, rather than sounding like a separate bass speaker.

Overall the product was very good it would of been a little more helpful if we had the connection that is needed for the speakers and maybe the instructions. How to troubleshoot low sound or no audio from the rear surround sound speakers. I really struggled to get the cover off the unit. It took me half an hour and a couple of cuts on my hands.

Last year, Sony's DAV-S300 "Dream System" hit the bull's-eye by offering an easy, all-in-one approach to home theater. Building on that success, Sony's new DVD Dream Systems remain simple to buy and use, while delivering even greater power and performance. No brackets for wall mounting available anywhere on the web or at stores.

I have been in contact with Sony about buying either a bigger subwoofer, or a bigger amp - but nothing will work straight forward. Seems I will have to live with it now... Just purchased the DAVS 550 all is well with the system. The only problem i have is receiving black and white picture whilst using a svhs - scart lead, so i am using the yellow composite supplied. The DAVS has two video channels, have you tried them both? I've done the same thing with my Nokia digibox, stereo L/R to L/R on Video 1 of the DAVS and it works fine.
The main DVD unit gets very hot when setup inside enclosed cabinets. I just bought this system for my girlfriend. She just bought herself a new TV and VCR and I wanted to buy her a DVD player for her b-day.

I had turned the unit over and over in many, many ways just to get the damn cover off. I always thought that you can do that with consumer electronics, provided that you have disconnected it . Turns out that some of the cogs in the player assembly are kept on their little axles by gravity alone. So they dropped off and rattled around. By the time I figured out what was going on the optical bits had been damaged. I love the Sony DAV-S550 DVD home cinema system.

Have you ever seen the difference between composite and RGB/S-Video for a games console? The non-composite picture is orders of magnitude sharper and more vibrant. I've got the switch on the back set to progressive which seems to work fine (it switches back to interlaced automatically for PAL DVD's which is quite annoying).
Unless your a game fan you might not of heard about the new format. Dolby Pro Logic II allows for a standard stereo input to be plugged in to give full 5.1 Surround sound! Obviously there is one small catch that the bass level is very low!

Control your music with one simple app, and fill your home with pure, immersive sound. PUSH POWER / PROTECT / PROTECTOR is flashing in the display of the home audio device. Get a video/aux lead and put in your headphone socket on your tv. Put the other end into the spare audio holes in the back of the system and set the function to 'video 2' function. Having just received the DAVS550 and never having had a full surrond sound system before, the sound quality and effects are awsome! No complaints about the product as yet.
