Last year, Sony's DAV-S300 "Dream System" hit the bull's-eye by offering an easy, all-in-one approach to home theater. Building on that success, Sony's new DVD Dream Systems remain simple to buy and use, while delivering even greater power and performance. No brackets for wall mounting available anywhere on the web or at stores.

“This is a amazing setup piece of kit. The Sony...”

I ended up making two from the hardware store for about $3.50 and they work great. If you want to rattle the floor and annoy the neighbors, upgrade to a more powerful sub.

Within 12 months my VCR processor failed . 12 months later my DVD controller board failed on the Sony DAV-S500 system, which costs a minimum of £120 to fix, plus labour costs and VAT. When AVENTAGE was introduced in 2010, this new top rated AV receiver series represented a dramatic, inspired leap forward with best in class audio/video component design.

The style is better than any old school-black units. This is the way to go if spending under $1000. SACD I only have the sampler that came with it and Im looking forward to bands I like releasing SACDs Easy to set up. Many different sound fields to choose from including Cinema Stuido EX A (C.S. EX) C.S. EX B, C.S. EX C, Game, Live House, Small Hall, Large Hall, and several others.

Knowing which model headphones you’re using lets us remove any sonic coloring from your experience. The product is as expected, no problem with the hardwares as such. But lack of availability of remote control and speaker wire dampen the real joy of using the product and hence curosity. The sound quality is comparable to many new high end systems of similar price range, and certainly doesn't sound cheap and nasty. The sub woofer gives really good quality bass that blends in well with the 5 tweeters, rather than sounding like a separate bass speaker.

The volume needs to be cranked on some DVDs but others are fine, especially those with a DTS track . Take the cover off and extract the circuit board that the speakers connect into, trace where the speaker connections are soldered into the board. I now have a unit with sound through all its speakers, but no way to play DVDs or CDs. I am utterly disappointed with Sony's design effort, to say the least. I'll buy something else and it won't be a Sony. I have the Sony DAV-s500 and it was great!

Also It is almost double the power of the w pc as opposed to 30wpc with the 300 but you wouldn't know it .. You have to put the volume much higher with the 550. It takes an eternity to load discs, and some come with the subtitles showing which is hacking me off, and the glow in the dark remote .. So all in I feel like I've wasted my money. Contacting my dealer this week to see about upgrading to the 880. I'm pretty happy with the Sony DAVS550 home cinema system.

The overall quality for less than $400 is outstanding. I have spent over $3000 on my system which includes a Harman Kardon AVR 65 receiver, velodyne sub, and Infinity center, front, and rear speakers. The Sony DAV-S500 home entertainment system with DVD player and 5.1-channel surround sound is designed with simplicity in mind. This Sony Home Theater System supports DVD and Super Audio CD formats and uses Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic decoding.

But it shows how the Dolby Labs are thinking of new ideas. So far only the New Nintendo GameCube is the only piece of equipment to take onboard this new piece of technology. The 550 builds on the older model with a more stylish setup and the additional support of CD-R, CD-RW, VCD's and SVCD! So at least Sony are hearing what we all want! Rumours are out that you can enter a password on the remote to unlock the region coding. After reading all your comments...and the issues with the Bass!

You can save yourself some money too by buying the speaker wall brackets from Currys a deal at only 12.99 per pair in silver. I am in the process of buying this system after readingf the reviews, however I have one question. Bought the Sony dav s 550 recently, from , which is offering good dealsat the moment. Never had DVD before, but the package of good quality, the package looks extremely stylish in my living room and I am a happy customer.

I decided to go with a cheaper DVD player/Surround Receiver in one boxed deal and I didn''t want to spend a lot of money. She isn''t a huge audio enthusiast like myself, but DVD''s are pointless in my mind without the benefit of Dolby digital or the DTS experience. She liked the ease of setup, even though I did it all, but in case she ever needs to do it herself, the color coded wires make it super easy. I set it up so we have her VHS and cable box going into the receiver and it does a very good job of creating a pro-logic surround atmospheres for those mediums. We watched Pearl Harbor the first night on the system and the bombs dropping halfway through the movie sounded really great. I increased the dB on the sub to +6 and this made all the difference in bass.

I have never owned a home theatre system before. My music system is of good quality (creek 4330/Klipsch KG5.5/cd player) set up in a study. My home theatre system previously consisted of an 84 cm television/vcr with a low cost bookshelf speaker and homebuilt amp providing the sound effects. I auditioned the Sony DAV S500 several times as I was making a decision to try multi channel 5.1. The other options seemed too expensive for my first foray into home theatre.

One day after about 5 YRS, not alot of use it died, no power lights or anything. So now I have a Panasonic TV and a Panasonic Cinema surround sound. I think it the Sony should have lasted longer as I paid nearly £500 pounds back then. In an actual listening room, you'd find that some speakers play louder than others when fed the same amount of power. In equal power mode, you'll hear these differences in loudness as they naturally occur between speakers. SpeakerCompare tailors your listening experience to the exact headphones you have, so that what you hear is comparable to auditioning speakers side-by-side in person.

Remote looks cool but its not set up very well. $600 price tag is kinda steep, $400 or less its a steal. Connections, it uses a reverse pin system instead of plugging in the tips of wire that plugs in like on speakers. Only 1 optical input and no coaxial input. Monitor Audio Ltd is a British owned and managed global specialist in hi-fi loudspeaker design. It turned out to be a scart input problem causing me to receive black and white pictures using scart to s-vhs connection.
